travelling [Jun. 10th, 2007|10:33 am]
hello livejournallers

i'm leaving for Africa early on Tuesday morning. I'll be working in a refugee camp teaching kids. unless i disappear into the jungle while tracking bushmeat, which i might have a predisposition to do, i will likely be stateside again in fall to go back to school.

i might make it to an internet cafe every now and again, so drop me a line if you feel like it. ceryndipity@gmail.com.

love to all,

isa

howsabout a loooong overdue update?

i have no idea who is reading this, but greetings to whoever you are.

i spent the first half of 2006 living and working on a commune/ecovillage/spiritual center in scotland. i cried like a baby when i left. then i travelled around europe for a good long while, sometimes alone, sometimes with my boyfriend. i got to meet various members of his large, conservative, scrutinizing, bavarian family. i was scared, ecstatic, weary, excited and many other things...

back home (new mexico) i worked in a bakery called the Chocolate Maven for what seemed like a lifetime. i made lots of money, cappucinos and friends. it rocked.

two days ago i moved to boulder, colorado. i'm sitting in my snow-bound, cozy, empty apartment- looking at the mountains and feeling very content, if a little lonely. tomorrow morning i will attend the orientation horrors of my new school, Naropa University (founded in the 60's by beat poets: jack kerouac, anne waldman and allen ginsberg along with the buddhist monk chogyam trungpa rinpoche)

howsabout some random isabel factoids?

-i still have long hair, dyed black these days.

-i'm still with my boyfriend, Peter, after two years.

-i have eleven piercings.

-i own and drive a hybrid car, it's bright red and i love it.

-i haven't been to d.c. since the two days of thanksgiving 2005, in fact i've really spent extroardinarily little time there since graduation. i'm a new mexico resident and i don't think of dc as home anymore.

-it could probably go without saying, but i dropped out of oberlin at some point last year. suffice to say it wasn't for me, though i love/d many people there.

- i drink loads of tea.

-i don't get drunk or smoke pot, except on very rare occasions and with good friends.

-my best friends have spread out all over the world...they are currently in ghana, india, new zealand, scotland, spain, all over the states and many other parts unknown.

-i still think of my friends from high school quite often, though i talk to them rarely: anna belew, sam, neroli, jojo, merper, sarah gilburne, kelsey, laura mattison. it may seem i've dropped off the earth but i still facebook stalk all of you. and think of you often.

ciao from colorado.

-isabel

I'm leaving tomorrow morning to be out of the country for at least five months.

the first three and a half months at a commune in scotland. after that i'll be tooling around europe...but maybe just ireland. i have vague plans to meet up with one of my roommates/my brother/my boyfriend. maybe one of them will pull through and i'll tool around with them...

i'm teary, i'm sad, i'm anxious/nervous, excited, scared, miss my friends already, miss my boyfriend already even though he's just in the next room...

:eep:

i wonder if fertilized eggs ever make it into cartons to be sold.

cute story: [Jan. 7th, 2006|03:55 pm]
peter has always wanted to own a helicopter, unfortunately he doesn't have any money, so no haps. so happens i found out he'd never been in a chopper, though. so i called every heli company on maui, none offered lessons and only told me that the only instructor in hawaii is on the big island and charges 1000 bucks an hour, so it seemed like the awesome present i had planned for my man wasn't gonna happen. until i was taking a walk through the neighborhood yesterday and saw a mini helicopter parked in the neighbor's yard...so i knocked on the door...turns out he gives lessons for 250 an hour! so today my love got to ride in a chopper for the first time...and i was on the beach in paia and he flew right over and we blew kisses...oh so sweet.

i love it here, by the way. tropical island+hippies+weather+ocean=girl likes it here.

hello! [Jan. 3rd, 2006|06:04 pm]
i'm housesitting in maui... a rather ridiculous house...it has an orchard with passion fruit, avocado, oranges, lemons...and a huge hot tub of lava rock and sand with a waterfall. my boyfriend may not be rich but he has rich friends so i can pretend he's my sugar daddy anyways...

yesterday we drove around the whole island, went shnorkling, tooling around rainforest...i hopped onto somebody's yard to steal bananas off their tree, almost got shot at by a naked native hawaiian...hee. (i saw an eel while shnorklin and almost drownded...for those who don't know i have a big bad eel phobia)

picking fruit off the side of the road, hopping in the ocean when it is too damn hot...this is kind of an idyllic time...heaven for free. and i get to be with the lovely man.

today the tsunami sirens went off for 20 minutes...we are up on a mountain so there wasn't anywhere to go...but what do you do when tsunami sirens go off?

in a month i'll be on a commune in scotland.

happiness to all in 2006.

update- TO THE MAXTREME! [Dec. 25th, 2005|09:26 pm]
i left oberlin on thursday in a flood of tears. wont be back until september. my lovely friends threw me a surprise party, could have cried i was so happy to see so many people in one room that i loved so much. leaving my roommates was the hardest thing i have done in a while, i have lived with them for a year and a half, they are my sisters, i love them dear and true.

i'm in santa fe now, my whole family is in california except for my mom and brother. i mustered no merriness for christmas this year, in fact i didn't give much of a shit about it... though i did get an embarrasingly fancy new digicam...we didn't even have a christmas tree, we just put lights on a houseplant.

leaving for maui on thursday...will finally see my man after two months...tis our one year anniversary...i'm so happy to go i can hardly think.

and i'm leaving for scotland in a month. who knows...

Christmas where I live [Dec. 16th, 2005|06:27 pm]
this is a nytimes article that literally takes place in my neighborhood in santa fe on christmas eve, and talks about places i've been going to since before i was born. there are also pretty picatures:

Santa Fe

(place references: canyon road and acequia madre are both a block from my house. the school of american research is quite literally across the street from my house. i've been hiking at tesuque and tsankawi pueblos since i could walk...tesuque market rocks the casbah as does ten thousand waves)

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your seven songs.

1) Bonnie and Clyde- Serge Gainsbourg et Brigitte
2) Fat Man- Jethro Tull
3) Alice's Restaurant- Arlo Guthrie
4) Shade and Honey- Lou Barlow
5) I Need a Man to Love- Janis Joplin
6) Where do the Children Play?- Cat Stevens
7) Jerusalem- Dan Bern

the first snow of the year is supposed to be calm and peaceful. this one is sharp and hurts to bike in.

yesterday at work i trained a woman more than twice my age to do the same job as me and make 1.10 less per hour. how positively silly.
